The world is evolving at a swift pace, and of course, we are approaching the end of days, inching closer towards the rapture of the body of Christ.
At the center of this evolution is technology, and whether we like it or not, to achieve significant success in any area of life, we must make use of technology.
I mean, it is no longer optional.
If you don’t want to be super rich or super excellent at what you do, then you should just scroll past this post.
The time will come when it’ll be very difficult for people who have no involvement with tech/internet to survive.
Let me paint the picture for you to see.
Before freelancing became popular, to be rich or successful, you should either be an engineer, a medical doctor, a lawyer, a banker, or…you know the list.
Later on, freelancing platforms like Fiverr & Upwork came on stage. Jobs like writing, programming, graphic design, and video editing became highly lucrative because of the global demand for them, and the fact that you can render services to people all over the world from anywhere you are.
Interest in non-tech-centered jobs like medicine and engineering started declining. (Of course, you’ll find out later in this post that any job can be tech-centered, and that will get easier by the year)
A lot of writers sprang up, Canva made graphic design easier, and people started making cartoon videos and doodles with online software. The income came in USD, and you could even earn more than a typical medical doctor.
Come November 30, 2022, ChatGPT was released, and that disrupted the market again. ChatGPT could write even better than many humans; it can create images, and you can upload a spreadsheet and ask it to run an analysis. In fact, people from Google, Facebook, and other big companies in the world lost their jobs because of AI.
After ChatGPT, a lot of amazing AI tools have been released.
Many big news companies now write their news reports with AI, and that has led to more retrenchment of staff members this year.
According to Keith – Niche Twins (https://twitter.com/patientpublish)
In January of 2024 alone:
Los Angeles Times: Laying off at least 115 people (more than 20% of its newsroom).
TIME Magazine: Laying off 15% of unionized editorial staff
Sports Illustrated: Laying off the majority of its staff over the next 90 days, and may not survive.
Business Insider: Laying off 8% of staff
Forbes: Laying off 3% of staff
Condé Nast: Looming layoffs of 5% of staff at the parent company behind legacy publications including Vogue, Vanity Fair, and GQ have led to picketing and strikes.
The situation now is that while a lot of people joined the first revolution of internet/tech-based jobs, a lot did not join.
Now even the ones that joined the train are facing a risk. To give you an example, I used to hire writers before for my websites, but now I generate about 500 articles containing 1,000,000 words with just $100 using an AI tool. And it writes perfectly, in fact, better than some humans will write.
If these tech people don’t learn to cooperate with AI and make the best use of it, they’ll be negatively impacted. For instance, knowing how to generate prompts for good AI results.
This is not affecting just the non-programming tech folks; even programmers are affected. In case you don’t know ChatGPT, which is about the most popular AI-
1. Understands programming language and can write code (I have used it to write plugins myself)
2. Can translate from one language to Nigerian languages and vice versa
3. Can analyse spreadsheets
4. Can create charts and graphs
5. Can create images. (I created the featured image for this post with DALL-E)
AI is gradually replacing even graphic designers. Imagine that this popular Minimie’s ad creative was generated with an AI (https://web.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1734317720419120&set=pcb.10161146568191306).
Do you know that there are YouTube Channels built entirely with AI? (With human-like characters and voices)
If you don’t understand these things, don’t worry, just keep reading.
Now AI is just in its infancy; we’re currently using GPT -4, but GPT5 is on its way. I can’t fully describe the expectations for the new AI capabilities to come. But as of now, ChatGPT can allow you to chat with images and chat with voice, so imagine what the future would be.
A few days ago (29th January 24), Elon Musk’s company – Neuralink successfully implanted a device into someone’s brain that can listen to what the brain is thinking and help people who can’t move well. They could use their thoughts to make a computer work, move a robot arm, or drive a wheelchair without touching anything.
Meta (Facebook) is also developing AI that will read your thoughts and type them out.
See, I can go on and on with these things, but here is what I am here to tell you.
This is the point.
Find a relationship between wherever you’re doing and the internet. Don’t say there is no way.
That is the first step to take. Overcome the obstacle of excuses.
Once you believe there is a way, you will find a way because the honest truth is – there is a way.
I don’t care what field you are in or what you sell, there is a place for everyone.
In other words, force a way to marry your skills, services, or trade with the internet.
We all don’t have to be programmers; in fact, I am not. But I have made millions from tech just as an English graduate.
There is space for everyone on the internet.
No matter what you do, even if you’re a vulcanizer, there is a way to make more money from the internet.
And I am not talking about just chatting on WhatsApp.
I mean making use of tech/internet in strategic ways to achieve faster and better results with whatever you’re doing.
Here are 4 things you can achieve easily with the internet.
1. Gain More trust (by proving you’re a real human doing what you know how to do, reviews too)
2. Gain Visibility – getting more people to know you and work with you.
3. Make Money from your content – getting paid not just for what you do but for the content you create while doing what you do.
4. Get more leads.
If you’re making 50% on whatever you’re doing offline, going online will make you have 100% more.
There are several testimonies of people who have done it.
For instance, as a vulcanizer, you can create a YouTube channel and do videos explaining basic concepts about the jobs you do. Things car owners should know about tires. I know a female mechanic who has made it big time with this.
Here is the simple trick, they say ‘content is King’, it is still true, but beyond being King, content is now money.
So create as much content as you can from everything you do and put it online.
If you’re a teacher, instead of teaching 2 children per week and collecting N40k monthly, start taking videos of your teaching classes and put them online. Over time, you’ll get followers and eventually get your accounts monetized. Instead of teaching 2 kids, teach millions through the internet and see what happens.
Make content out of any service you render, so you’re getting a dual value.
You get paid for doing what you do, and you also get paid when your content becomes monetized.
Don’t say you cannot speak English. Create the content in your local language. Use Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, or any language you speak. People will listen.
These are some of the methods that can be applied by anyone.
1. Market what you do to your target audience online. Facebook Ads are cheap and good for this
2. Create a catalog of your products online.
3. Eliminate barriers to sales by making it easier for buyers to buy from you with websites, easier payment methods, etc.
4. Take videos of yourself while working or making your products. Put the content out.
Recently, I got a random person to repair my car’s gearbox, whose number I found on an obscure site. (fatcat.ng)
The guy has a Facebook page with videos of him repairing gearboxes,
I cannot exhaust all the details in this post.
If you want me to help you identify how to make the best use of the internet and tech space for what you do, let me know in the comment box, even if it’s a regular 9 – 5 job you do.
At the rate inflation is rising in Nigeria, you have to do more to stay afloat, and where the more is, is on the internet. Join the train before it’s too late.
Let’s stop here for now
